Personas: Giovanna Battaglia

There are some people that with their beauty, creativity, hard work and unique style make you fall in love with them. One of those people is Giovanna Battaglia. I consider Giovanna as one of my personal style icons and I truly admire her. Growing up in Milan’s via Montenapoleone ,which is the heart of Italy’s fashion industry (with boutiques of all the major Italian fashion houses) Giovanna became  fashion conscious at a very young age. Her first job at 16,5 ,as a model, was for Dolce and Gabbana . It was there that she became aware of what a stylist is and decided that this was her dream job. She was working as a freelance when Anna Dello Russo asked her to come to L’uomo Vogue with her. She considers ADR and Franca Sozzani as her teachers and mentors. After years of working as a contributor or editor for magazines like Vogue Italia, Vogue China, Vogue Germany, L’uomo Vogue, Vogue Gioiello, Vogue Pelle and others, Giovanna can be found today in New York working for W magazine. She believes that a stylist must be like a filter with many views and translate everyday life and art to clothes and images. Gio’s style is a hot topic in every fashion week. With a heavy use of accessories and a more-is-more aesthetic, she creates classy looks, which are very Milanese with a touch of humour and glamour. Her editorials are also int he same style. Humour, irony, elegance and surrealism are always present in her work.

Giovanna is the long-term girlfriend of Vladimir Roitfeld, the son of Vogue Paris’s ex-editor in chief and the new global fashion director of Harper’s Bazaar, Carine Roitfeld.  She belongs to a group of interesting, inspiring and hard-working people in the global fashion jet set. Her hard work and milestones that she achieved over the years are an inspiration to anyone interested in working in the world of fashion and publishing. We are looking forward to everything miss Battaglia will surprise us with in the future.
